Thursday Lunches at Jacksons Lane have been a long-time tradition: most recently, we hosted a dynamic, diverse group of people over 55 once a month for our Social Lunches to enjoy food, live performance and community.
Lockdown Lunch, facilitated on Zoom by Clair Chapwell (founder of Bolder Voices and Spare Tyre Theatre Company) is our pandemic offspring of Social Lunch, and it has evolved into something quite of its own.
Clair sets guests a new theme every week, such as 'Masks', 'Hands' and 'Summer in the City', and they use it as a stimulus to create poems, paintings, stories and songs to perform to the group at the next Lockdown Lunch.
The results have been staggering! Talents unlocked, community formed, and the most beautiful creations composed and performed each week. We even have a soap opera with weekly instalments that is written and directed by Clair, and acted entirely by our talented participants.
Putting together my poem for Lockdown Lunch meant that for the first time, I didn't think about COVID for one full day

Lockdown Lunch has become many things: a writing group, a welcome distraction from the current moment, an impetus to stay creatively energised throughout the week and a place to make and meet with friends.
"I’m proud to have been associated with Lockdown Lunch since it began. I’ve been facilitating and mentoring drama and writing groups for decades and there is something special about this group. It’s a combination: the anxiety around lockdown, the enforced isolation, the strangeness of Zoom and – of course – that Jacksons Lane magic." -- Facilitator Clair Chapwell
