Two women balance on a piece of circus equipment, they seem to be getting in each others way.

Interview with Lotta and Stina

Tell us about yourselves and when did you start collaborating?

We are two Finnish female circus artists. We started working together when when we met at youth circus in Finland. In 2005 we enrolled at ESAC (Ecole superieure des arts du cirque) in Brussels.

What inspired you to create your new show?

Our new show is an auto fictional journey through some of the real life events and stories in the past 23 years working as a duo. We wanted to share what we’ve been through but also show the audience another side of the glamour and glitter show business so often seems to be about.

Has making this show given you a different outlook on working in the industry?

It has definitely given me zero tolerance for a**holes and it has made me (Lotta) realize that even though it feels like we’ve taken huge steps in the last 10 years, there is still plenty of not-so-nice behaviour and expectations in this business.

What advice would you give to young women who are about to embark on their circus careers?

Be yourself. There a whole array of fantasies people would love for you to fulfil but today women really can be anything. if you wanna be funny, go for it! Also, speak up. If you felt uncomfortable, it’s not okay.

What should audiences expect from your new show and why should they come to see it?

20 Years Later Still Here! is a circus drama-comedy. We want to talk about serious issues whilst making the audience laugh. And then make them reflect on what they were laughing at and how maybe it’s not so funny.

Audiences should come because I think everyone can recognize themselves in this show despite their gender, culture or occupation. And all topped with worlds class acrobatics from the only all-female acrobatics on rolabola duo!

You can catch 20 Years Later Still Here! on Saturday 13 April at 7:30pm. Book your tickets here.
