Two-day workshop from David Glass

Who is it for?

Participants with some knowledge of theatre making – come prepared to move.

What will it cover?

The artist is constantly using their work to help people to ‘see again,’ ‘think again’ and ‘feel again.’

David Glass will lead an intensive introductory two-day masterclass in physical and devised theatre.

This workshop will introduce the participants to David Glass’s hugely practical approach to physical and devised theatre. Rooted in the body and the principle that all life and expression grows out of movement and theatre is the imagination made manifest through the body and voice of the performer.

Day 1: Physical Theatre

Physical metaphor and action. Participants will learn a number of expressive tools: Elan, struggle, pushing, pulling and being present, and the foundational grammar of impulse, journey, fixed point and the archetypal emotions of Joy, Grief, Fear and Anger.

Day 2: Devised Theatre

David will take the participants on a whirl wind experience of his five phase creative practice that form the basis of his devising process used by theatre companies and creative organisations around the world.

David Glass is an award-winning performer, director, teacher and creative thinker, having worked in 73 countries and taught over 80,000 people. He trained at the Lecoq and Decroux schools in Paris and studied with Augusto Boal, Jerzy Grotowski, Peter Brook, Alvin Ailey and Mike Alfreds.
