Quiet Sirens in a Different Kitchen
Mike will be performing poetry and words from throughout his illustrious career, which began over 20 years ago as a librarian at Manchester Central Library. He is the regular Special Guest to his fellow Mancunian bard Dr John Cooper Clarke and was recently awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Letters at Manchester Met University.
Mike’s gritty poetry has won admiration far and wide and his collaboration with Joe Duddell and New Order in New Yorks’ Carnegie Hall in 2014 received five star reviews. In 2010, Mike was hand picked to tour with John Cooper Clarke by his management. “I liked what he said and the way he said it”, said John, reflecting on their nine-year working relationship performing in over 300 international venues.
Toria started writing poetry aged 13, when she stole two Jim Morrison poetry books from Knottingley Library. Years later she sent a parcel of poems, glitter and Wham bars to Mancunian poet Mike Garry and invited him to a show. He became a mentor and champion of her work, introducing her to John Cooper Clarke and his management.
Toria has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the UK, including the London Palladium and Manchester Bridgewater Hall. Her debut collection The Universe and Me, released on Wrecking Ball Press in 2018, was preceded by an album of 20 of her earlier works Hot Plastic Moon.
