CLOSER: a short film

Book now
When the world closed, we became closer. Circus – from all corners of Europe, out of doors, on your benches, bridges, in your parks and on your paths.

Three contemporary circus companies from across Europe, Still Hungry (Germany), Agit-Cirk (Finland) and Lost in Translation (England) join together for Closer, Jacksons Lane's short film produced under and inspired by lockdown, shot against the backdrops of magnificent Berlin colonnades, Helsinki’s urban wetlands and the historic skyline of Norwich, and performing from sculptures, swing-sets, benches and bridges.

The film is tied together by the three companies’ exploration of intimacy and touch in a year of distance, and finding community in a time of solitude. Aerial rope, aerial straps, contortion and hand-to-hand acrobatics are featured alongside many other circus skills.

Closer, created with financial support from 101 Outdoor Arts, was produced in collaboration with Jacksons Lane’s Artistic Director Adrian Berry, who acted as outside artistic eye.

Closer was developed with the help of project funding from 101 Outdoor Arts Creation Space, part of the Corn Exchange in Berkshire, in May 2020 to help outdoor artists negatively affected by Covid-19 – and to explore new ways of working while touring and performing were unfeasible.
