Community Play: Interested in Theatre?
In partnership with Alexandra Palace, a group of community members are devising a piece of theatre alongside theatre-maker Kay Adshead, inspired by Haringey’s LGBTQ+ heritage to be performed at Alexandra Palace.
Section 28 and the Queer State
Tue 9 April, 5:30pm and 8:30pm
In 1986, Section 28 banned local authorities from “promoting homosexuality”, and damned same-sex parents as “pretend families”.
In 2019, Jacksons Lane’s Haringey Has Pride project takes audiences on a magical journey through the magnificent Alexandra Palace to explore Haringey's historic struggle to repeal Section 28. With a robust mix of community and professional cast and incorporating a local choir ‘The Angels of Chaos’, we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and deconstruct the very notion of 'family'.
The epic play ends on the stage of the iconic Victorian theatre as we spin into a fantastical imagined future, dramatizing the possibilities of A Queer Future, inventing a Theatre of Hope.
