In OMÂ (blending “Oma,” German for grandma, and “Mâdarjun,” the Farsi term of affection), German-Iranian circus artist Roxana Küwen Arsalan imagines a dialogue between her two grandmothers, who have never met, brought together through a circus teatime performance full of poetry and humor. Juggling teapots, languages, and questions of privilege, OMÂ explores the happenstance of our origins.
This multi-layered solo delves into Roxana’s Iranian and East Frisian roots, turning stereotypes upside down through foot juggling, object manipulation, dance, and language. Told in English, OMÂ is a subtle auto-fiction shaped by the presence of each audience.
After the show, there will be a Q&A with the artist.
