Major redevelopment in 2020

Jacksons Lane 18 June 2019

We have some incredibly exciting news to share.

We've just got word from Arts Council England that they will provide £2.26 million in funding through their Large Capital Grants scheme, funded by the National Lottery, to support our capital redevelopment project, taking place in 2020.

This funding is a crucial contribution to our £5.1m redevelopment plans, which will be overseen by the architect firm Citizens Design Bureau.

The redevelopment will transform our Grade II-listed building and secure our position as the UK’s leading venue for contemporary circus, creative learning and community involvement.

The inside of our building will be reimagined to create studio spaces that are stimulating, well-equipped and, for the first time, entirely physically accessible. The foyer will be dramatically expanded and the auditorium, converted in the 1980s from a beautiful church hall, will be (sensitively) enhanced, revealing its striking historical features and improving our audiences' experience.

Once this is all finished, we'll be bursting with activity, morning, noon and night with a vibrant programme of artistic work and creative learning opportunities. We'll build on our reputation as the UK’s leading supporter of contemporary circus to become the home of excellence for all non-verbal theatre.

Increased opportunities will be available to young people passionate about pursuing a career in the arts. Our home will reflect London’s diversity across our artists, audiences and staff, and we'll be able to move forward sustainably into the future.

We're thrilled to be one of only two National Portfolio Organisations in London to be awarded a Large Capital Grant this year. The redevelopment project has already received the generous support of Haringey Council, who have committed £1m.

Our public fundraising campaign, Love Jacksons Lane, launches this month; we have £1.7m left to raise to complete the project. Watch this space for more news.

Everyone at Jacksons Lane is absolutely thrilled by this news. We can now look to deliver even more exciting, diverse arts performance and engagement in a building that our audiences and artists can be proud of. This is such an achievement for the entire team.

The transformation of Jacksons Lane enabled by the Arts Council’s generosity will enable us to deepen our support for artistic and local communities, to shine more brightly in north London and better welcome emerging and established talent from across the UK and abroad. We hope this strong endorsement of our project will draw in other funds and enable us to reimagine and amplify our role as a creative hub for the decades to come.
