Celebrating International Youth Day at Jacksons Lane

Young people have always been at the grassroots of making Jacksons Lane what it is today. From helping clean the derelict church in the early days to joining various clubs once Jacksons Lane became an established arts centre, they’ve been involved throughout its journey. This International Youth Day, we’re proud to celebrate the energy, creativity, and passion of the young people who make our venue vibrant, dynamic, and full of possibility.

We’ve always been committed to offering diverse and meaningful opportunities for youth to grow, express themselves, and connect with others. Over the years this has involved defying gravity in JL Youth Circus, uncovering untold stories through the Young Heritage Producers Programme, and much more.

Honouring young people in our 50th anniversary heritage project, our Young Heritage Producers Programme gave local young people the chance to shape how local stories are told. Through deep dives of research into our archives, they co-curated and presented their own cultural and historical explorations on our 50th birthday party.

Work Experience & Volunteering

Each term, we welcome work experience students from local schools and colleges, giving them a first-hand look at life behind the scenes at a professional arts venue. Overseeing and gaining an insight into technical production to marketing, creative engagement to front-of-house, they gain a real taste of the arts and culture sector.

Looking Ahead

We want to say a huge thank you to the young people who inspire us daily with their courage, creativity, and to those back in the 1970s who had the vision of what this space could be.

Here’s to our next generation of artists, producers, and cultural leaders. The future is yours — and we’re proud to be part of your journey.
