The Brides

29 Jan 2023

London International Mime Festival

David Glass Ensemble (UK) and Topi Dalmata (Italy)

Seven women in bridal gowns awaken in cocoons in the Palace of Survival. Watched over by the Death Bride they wait for a groom who never comes as we witness the four seasons of a woman’s life.

“Disturbing, suggestive, powerful.” La Nazione, Italy

The Brides is a riotous celebration of misbehaviour, tenderness and power, of love, greed, death and rebirth. Its influences include Pina Bausch, Mamma Mia, the Marx Brothers, Garcia Lorca and Frida Kahlo. The international cast of performers is directed by David Glass, a major figure in physical theatre for four decades.

“A stunning expression of feminine power.” Il Cittadino, Siena, Italy

“Born in our beautiful home of Siena Italy and made through personal experiences of our community of female artists, we see The Brides as a gift, a cultural movement, celebrating women around the world, in all their extraordinary expressions. The Brides is more than a show, it’s a necessary movement for our time.” Margherita Fusi and Silvia Bruni, co-founders of The Brides movement

“It is hard to know what will become of the world in the next few years, but we can be sure that whatever is happening, vital and resourceful artists such as David Glass will be there at the frontline, challenging complacency and waving the flag for risk and experimentation.” Total Theatre
