Keeping it Peel
Wed 5 Oct 5PM
John Peel shot to fame as a DJ at Radio 1 where he worked for 37 years. In this time his Peel Sessions became infamous, with over 4000 sessions recorded by 2000 artists. Throughout his career he became known for championing new and unsigned bands (as well an array of interesting beards!) and was loved by musicians and fans alike.
‘Keeping it Peel’ day began in 2007 to celebrate the incredible legacy he left behind. This October, Jacksons Lane will be ‘Keeping it Peel’ with the only London dates of John Osborne’s Edinburgh hit John Peel’s Shed.
In 2002, John Osborne won a competition on John Peel's Radio One show. His prize was a box of records that took eight years to listen to. The show is an ode to radio, those records and anyone who's ever sought solace in wireless. Fans will be delighted to hear a selection of records, previously owned by the man himself, featured in the show.
John Peel’s Shed went down a storm at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this year receiving an avalanche of 4 and 5 star reviews. Here’s what the press are saying:
“I could have listened for hours” * * * * * The Independent
“Beautifully-written, funny and poignant... Just as John Peel’s records changed his life this lovely, simple, beautifully executed show has enriched ours” * * * * * The Scotsman
“One of the Top Ten Theatre Highlights of the Edinburgh Festival” * * * * The Telegraph
“One of the loveliest things you’ll see all year” * * * * The Herald
John Peel’s Shed can be seen at Jacksons Lane, Tue 25 – Sat 29 Oct 8pm. Book online via our website or call our Box Office on 020 8341 4421.
