Cosi Fan Tutte at Jacksons Lane!
Fri 19 Aug 8PM
Così Fan Tutte is Jacksons Lane’s inaugural opera
Jacksons Lane is delighted to be teaming up with internationally renowned Oyster Opera to stage its first ever opera – Cosi Fan Tutte - a fabulously witty adaptation of a classic Mozart opera with a contemporary twist, from Friday 19 August until Friday 26 August 2011. This is Così Fan Tutte as never seen before.
Inspired by the anonymity of online dating, Ferrando and Guglielmo take up their friend’s wager to test their girlfriends’ fidelity by masking their true identities. When the couples meet in person, unknown to their unsuspecting lovers, the two men abandon their disguises to reveal their true identities. Will their girlfriends decipher the web of deceit and stay faithful or will they be tempted by forbidden fruits?
Oyster Opera’s accessible adaptation examines the trials and tribulations of finding love in the cyber generation and the inevitable breakdown in communications that arise from virtual relationships. Whilst the internet may have revolutionised the dating scene, online communications still cannot compete with face to face interaction. This innovative and engaging production illustrates that it is only when electronic communications fails that human communications can begin.
Mirroring Mozart’s own experiences, Così Fan Tutte is a work of poignant beauty with all the hallmarks of a romantic comedy. Whether an avid opera enthusiast or a first-timer, this is a wonderful opportunity for audiences to experience one of Mozart’s finest works in an intimate North London space.
Jacksons Lane’s Artistic Director, Adrian Berry says: ‘‘As part of Jacksons Lane’s desire to push the boundaries, we’re venturing into the previously unknown world of arias and sopranos. This collaboration with Oyster Opera will open the doors to an art form which many feel is beyond their reach. We’re going to prove that two worlds really can collide - a contemporary, dynamic arts venue with one of the oldest theatrical forms, in a vibrant modern day context, and one of the most popular operatic titles in history. It will be affordable, exciting and a night out for everyone!’’
Così Fan Tutte will be performed in a modern English translation written by director Fraser Grant specifically for Jacksons Lane. Tickets are now on-sale.
